PEACE BE UPON YOU
AFTER DARK: ME & MY NAFS
FRIDAYS AFTER TARAWEEH
A social commentary on what happens after dark, our relationship with Allah, Technology & Inner Dialogue
sESSION #3
Ustadh Baker Assaf
Your Nafs is affected by your senses & your environment.
Eyesight is the gateway to the Nafs, guarding your eyes, will make it easier to train your Nafs.
˹O Prophet!˺ Tell the believing men to lower their gaze and guard their chastity. That is purer for them. Surely Allah is All-Aware of what they do. [ Surah Nur 24:30]
Lowering your gaze, is focusing on your akhirah. Learn to guard your gaze in private and in public (in front of people).
The Witness: Body Parts Speak
Your Nafs will try to deny its sins, but Allah will seal our mouths, and our own body parts will be a witness for what we did, and testify against us.
Allah will grant the faculty of speech to the very limbs and skin of the sinners. The Quran states:
"And they will say to their skins, 'Why have you testified against us?' They will say, 'We were made to speak by Allah, who has made everything speak...' (Surah Fussilat 41:21)
"Today We shall set a seal on their mouths, and their hands will speak to Us, and their feet will bear witness to what they used to do." (Surah Yaseen 36:65)
Breaking the Habit of Sin
“The best of sinners are those who repent” (Prophet SAW)
Recognizing your sin, Allah gave you the blessing to see that you are sinning, be honest with yourself.
Imam Hasan Al-Basri said, “The greatest punishment from Allah for a sin is that He allows you to sin again.”
The worse sin a person can do, is a sin they are aware of and they repeat it”
Nafs on yawmal Qiyaamah
Surah Az Zumar & Surah Al-Araf
Allah references the hypocritical Nafs, one that is one way in public, appearing to be truthful and righteous, but in private they are untrained.
Questions to ask yourself on your nafs
Where was I when I commit this sin?
Is there a certain time or place that I feel comfortable sinning?
Am I no longer ashamed of this sin being exposed?
When did you first commit this sin?
Did someone encourage you to do this?
Break Out Sessions covered - 5 Point Game Plan to Address Sin
